Bestimmungsgemäße Verwendung

Das Produkt ist zum Einbau in einen PCI-Steckplatz eines Computers vorgesehen

und stellt dort einen drahtlosen Netzwerkanschluss (WLAN) zur Verfügung.

Dieses Produkt erfüllt die gesetzlichen nationalen und europäischen Anforderungen.

Einbau



Falls Sie keine Fachkenntnisse für den Einbau besitzen, so lassen

Sie den Einbau von einer FACHKRAFT oder einer entsprechenden

Fachwerkstatt durchführen!



Durch unsachgemäßen Einbau wird sowohl die Steckkarte als auch

Ihr Computer und alle angeschlossenen Geräte beschädigt.

Vorsicht, Lebensgefahr!

Schalten Sie den Computer, in den die Steckkarte eingebaut werden

soll und alle angeschlossenen Geräte aus und trennen Sie alle Geräte

von der Netzspannung, ziehen Sie den Netzstecker! Das Ausschalten

über den Ein-/Ausschalter genügt nicht!

• Öffnen Sie das Gehäuse Ihres Computers und nehmen Sie den Gehäusedeckel

vorsichtig ab.

• Suchen Sie einen freien PCI-Steckplatz, entfernen Sie das zugehörige Slotblech

und stecken Sie die Karte in den PCI-Steckplatz ein. Schrauben Sie die Steckkarte

fest, kontrollieren Sie den korrekten Sitz im PCI-Slot!

• Schrauben Sie die Antenne am entsprechenden Anschluss der Steckkarte auf.

• Verschließen Sie das Gehäuse Ihres Computers.

• Verbinden Sie Ihren Computer und Monitor mit der Netzspannung und schalten Sie

alle Geräte ein.

• Startet Ihr Computer nicht korrekt, so schalten Sie ihn sofort aus und kontrollieren

Sie sämtliche Einstellungen und Kabelverbindungen.

Vor dem erneuten Öffnen des Computers ist dieser von der Netz-

spannung zu trennen, siehe oben!

Treiber-Installation

Windows erkennt die Steckkarte automatisch. Legen Sie den mitgelieferten Treiber-

Datenträger in das entsprechende Laufwerk Ihres Computers ein und folgen Sie allen

Anweisungen.

Eventuell ist danach erst ein Neustart nötig, bevor der Netzwerkanschluss einwand-

frei funktioniert.

Tipps & Hinweise

• Die LED auf der Steckkarte zeigt eine Datenübertragung (LED blinkt) bzw.

Netzwerkverbindung (LED leuchtet dauernd) an.

• Wenn Sie für Ihr Netzwerk einen eigenen Netzwerk- oder Systemadministrator

haben (etwa in einer größeren Firma), so lassen Sie ihn den Einbau und die

Konfiguration übernehmen, bauen Sie die Steckkarte nicht selbst in den Computer

ein.





• Die angegebene maximale Datenübertragungsrate von 54MBit (802.11b/g), also

etwa 6.5MByte/s, wird im praktischen Betrieb niemals erreicht. Das ist zurückzu-

führen auf die verwendete Übertragungstechnik, auf Übertragungsfehler, den

Abstand zwischen den WLAN-Stationen usw.

• Bei Windows kann es etwas dauern, bis die Rechner im Netzwerk sichtbar werden.

Wenn Sie die Rechner eingeschaltet haben und Windows auf allen Rechnern nach

ein paar Sekunden geladen ist, können Sie in der Regel nicht sofort einen anderen

Rechner zugreifen. Beim Doppelklick auf "Netzwerkumgebung" kann z.B. die

Meldung kommen "...Das Netzwerk kann nicht durchsucht werden...".

Falls nach mehreren Minuten immer noch kein Zugriff möglich ist, so sind die

Einstellungen einer verwendeten Firewall oder eines Virenscanners zu überprüfen.

Auch die Zugriffsrechte müssen natürlich entsprechend eingestellt werden, falls Sie

Betriebssysteme mit solchen Features einsetzen.

Es gibt zahlreiche Ursachen, warum keine Netzwerkverbindung zustande kommt.

Bitte beachten Sie entsprechende Fachliteratur oder fragen Sie einen Fachmann.

•

Sofern Sie keinen eigenen DHCP-Server verwenden (z.B. in allen WLAN-DSL-

Routern integriert), sollten Sie jedem Computer eine eigene feste IP-Adresse

zuweisen.

Stellen Sie den ersten Computer z.B. auf 192.168.1.1 ein, den zweiten Computer

auf 192.168.1.2 usw. Die ersten drei Zahlen müssen auf allen Computern gleich

sein, die letzte Zahl darf Werte von 1 bis 254 annehmen.

Die „Subnet-Mask“ ist auf allen Computern auf 255.255.255.0 einzustellen.

• Netzwerkverbindungen sollten Sie unbedingt verschlüsseln, um unberechtigte

Zugriffe z.B. auf Ihren WLAN-DSL-Router zu verhindern. Sie sollten vorranging die

Verschlüsselungsart „WPA“ anstelle „WEP“ nutzen, sofern z.B. im WLAN-Router

verfügbar, da „WEP“ nicht mehr ausreichend sicher gegen Angriffe geschützt ist.

• Die Reichweite ist abhängig von den Umgebungsbedingungen; eine Verringerung

der Funkreichweite ist möglich durch:

- Hochfrequenzstörungen aller Art (Computer, Monitore, Handys)

- Bebauung jeglicher Art und Vegetation

- Leitende Metallteile, die sich im Nahbereich der Geräte bzw. innerhalb oder nahe

der Funkstrecke befinden, z.B. Kabel, Heizkörper, metallisierte Isolierglasfenster,

Stahlbetondecken usw.

- Beeinflussung der Strahlungscharakteristik der Antennen durch den Abstand von

Sender oder Empfänger zu leitenden Flächen oder Gegenständen (auch zum

menschlichen Körper oder Boden)

- Breitbandstörungen in städtischen Gebieten, die den Signal-Rauschabstand ver-

kleinern; das Signal wird in diesem „Rauschen“ nicht mehr erkannt

- Einstrahlung von mangelhaft a/jointfilesconvert/265114/bgeschirmten elektronischen Geräten, z.B. offen

betriebene Computer o.ä.

- Bewegung von Empfänger/Sender

- Zu geringer Abstand von Sender & Empfänger

Installation



If in doubt about how to install the device correctly, please contact an

EXPERT or a specialist workshop and let them do the installation!



Incorrect installation can cause damage to the plug-in card and to

your computer and all connected devices.

Caution, Danger of Death!

Switch off the computer, in which the plug-in card is to be installed,

and all connected devices and disconnect all the devices from the

mains voltage, pull out the mains plug! Switching the device off with

the ON/OFF switch is not sufficient!

• Open your computer housing and carefully remove the lid of the housing.

• Locate a free PCI slot, remove this slot’s cover and insert the PCI card into the slot.

Screw the plug-in card tightly in place, make sure it is seated properly in the PCI slot!

• Screw the aerial on to the appropriate connector on the plug-in card.

• Close the computer housing.

• Connect your computer and monitor to the mains voltage and switch on all the

devices.

• If your computer does not start correctly, switch it off immediately and check all the

settings and cable connections.

Before you open the computer again, it needs to be disconnected

from the mains voltage, see above!

Driver Installation

Windows detects the plug-in card automatically. Insert the supplied data carrier with

the driver into the corresponding drive of your PC and follow the instructions dis-

played.

It might be necessary to restart for the network connection to function properly.

Tips & Notes

• The LED on the plug-in card indicates data transmission (LED flashes) and con-

nection to the network (LED on).

• If you have your own network or system administrator for your network (as is prob-

ably the case in a larger company), please allow this person to assume responsibil-

ity for installation and configuration. Do not perform the installation of the plug-in

card yourself.



• The stated maximum data transfer rate of 54 MBit (802.11b/g), corresponding to

approximately 6.5 MBytes/s, will never be reached in practice. This is due to the

communication method, transmission errors, the distance between the WLAN sta-

tions etc.

• With Windows, it might take some time until the PCs become visible to the network.

Normally, you cannot access another PC immediately after you have switched on

the PCs and Windows is loaded on all PCs. When double-clicking „My Network

Places“, for example, the message „...Unable to browse the network...“ may appear.

If, after a few minutes, it is still not possible to access other PCs, check the settings

of any firewall or virus scanner that might be used.

Naturally, access permissions also have to be set accordingly, if you use operating

systems that offer such features.

There are numerous causes that can explain why a network connection is not suc-

cessful. Please refer to the corresponding specialised literature or to a specialised

technician.

•

Unless you use your own DHCP server (e.g. integrated with all WLAN DSL

routers), you should assign each computer its an own fixed IP address.

For example, set the first computer to 192.168.1.1, the second to 192.168.1.2, etc.

The first three numbers must be the same for all the computers, the last number can

range from 1 to 254.

The „Subnet Mask“ has to be set to 255.255.255.0 on all of the computers.

• You should always encrypt your network connections, to prevent unauthorized

access, e.g. to your WLAN DSL router. If available in the WLAN router, you should

choose WPA as the encryption method instead of WEP, since WEP does not offer

anymore sufficient protection against attacks.

• The range depends on the environmental conditions. A reduction can be caused by:

- High-frequency interference of all types (computers, monitors, mobile phones)

- Any kind of construction and vegetation

- Conductive metals that are located in the proximity of the devices, or within, or

close to the radio path, e.g. cables, radiators, metal insulation glass windows, rein-

forced concrete floors etc.

- Influence on the radiation characteristics of the aerials due to the separation of the

transmitter or receiver to conductive areas or objects (also to the human body or

floor)

- Broadband disturbances in urban areas, which reduce the signal-to-noise ratio;

the signal is no longer recognisable in the “noise”.

- Irradiation of deficiently shielded electronic devices, e.g. computers operated

openly, or such like.

- Movements of the receiver/transmitter

- Too small a distance between the transmitter & the receiver
